The Mounted Patrol program of the Dona Ana County Sheriff's
Department is intended to allow civilians of good moral character, and who
otherwise meet the criteria set by the Sheriff, to volunteer their time in order
to assist the Sheriff in fulfilling his duties.
Members of the Mounted Patrol are charged with the duty of conducting, and or assisting, in Search and Rescue/Recovery operations at the directions and approval of the Sheriff of Dona Ana County. Additionally, members of the Mounted Patrol may be called upon to assist the Sheriff in the discharge of his office by supplementing the Sheriff's Department Law Enforcement personnel.
This personnel alternative is not designed as a substitute for law enforcement officers in those positions requiring law enforcement authority, but rather it is intended to achieve the use of law enforcement officers in the appropriate configuration, supported by civilian staff.
